Free Application for Federal Student Aid

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (known as the FAFSA) is a form that can be prepared annually by current and prospective college students (both undergraduate and graduate) in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid (including the Pell grants, and work-study programs).

Despite its name, the application is the gateway to be considered not only for the 9 federal student aid programs, but also state and local aid. The U.S. Department of Education begins accepting the applications beginning January 1 of each year for the upcoming academic year. Each application period is 18-months. Most federal, state, and institutional aid is provided on a first come, first served basis. Students are advised to submit a FAFSA as early as possible for consideration for maximum financial assistance.

Applicants who have completed a FAFSA in previous years may submit a renewal FAFSA, but any information that has changed must be updated annually.

Once you have submitted your FAFSA application, you will be sent either an award or denial letter from their office. You may be offered federal, state and local grants, as well as, loans (which require repayment). T.E.A.C.H. does not encourage the use of student loans unless absolutely necessary.

If you are eligible for grants, such as PELL, then that money must be used to pay your tuition first and T.E.A.C.H. will be the payor of last resort. T.E.A.C.H. will continue to provide travel, release time and bonuses as part of your scholarship. You must notify T.E.A.C.H. if you become eligible for other financial assistance. If you have any questions please call the T.E.A.C.H. offices.
